I was hunting on state game lands in clarion
county. I mistakenly shot what I thought was a
legal buck. After realizing my mistake I
dressed, tagged and drug the deer from the
woods. I encountered 2 game warden on the trail
out and told them what happened. They were
sympathetic and told me to deliver the deer to a
checkpoint later in the day. They said I would
have to pay a $25.00 fine and could keep the
deer.
What a surprise I had when I took the deer
to the check point. I was treated like a
criminal and was told they did not believe my
story and was fined$100.00 plus costs and was
not allowed to keep the deer. I learned a
valuable lesson from this experience. I used to
have great respect for what I thought were true
sportsmen. I will never try to do the right
thing if this should ever happen again. I am
ashamed to say I will let the deer rot in the
woods rather than trust the game commission
again.
